Suspicious Call from your bank

July 1, 2026

If you receive a suspicious call from your bank, hang up immediately and dial the number printed on the back of your payment card. Fake bank calls, or bank impersonation scams, rely heavily on caller ID spoofing technology to trick you into giving away your financial access.

Critical Prevention Steps

  • Hang up immediately: Do not stay on the line if a caller asks you to verify personal credentials.
  • Call back directly: Use only the phone number listed on your official bank card or statement.
  • Never type codes: Do not enter or read back one-time verification codes sent to your phone.
  • Do not transfer money: Real banks will never ask you to move funds to a "safe account".
  • Refuse remote access: Hang up if a caller demands you download an app or provide device access.

Things Your Bank Will Never Request

Cooper's Cave Federal Credit Union will maintain strict protocols regarding unsolicited customer contact. A legitimate employee will never request:

  • Your digital banking password or 4-digit ATM PIN.
  • Any one-time passcode text messages sent to your device.
  • Cash withdrawals to be handed over to a courier for safekeeping.
